I’m trying to make this a monthly feature on my blog as sometimes it’s best to correlate a few different things into one……if ya know what I mean. And nobody has time to read a long winded speel about one thing in particular……do they? Or is that just me lol?
Anyway, there’s a couple of things that I wanted to chat about which I’ve actually been enjoying the past month and which I’d like to share with you all……..first up……….
Ok I’ll be the first to admit that whenever I hear the term ‘Aqua Aerobics’…..I think a leisurely splash about in a pool in a holiday resort hotel with a bunch of people who just do it to pass an hour or so of their annual fortnightly break to the tune of cheesy holiday music! Am I right? Well whether I am or not…..I stand guilty as one of those bored holidaymakers who has gotten their lazy ass off their sun lounger to go into the pool and try to pretend they’re actually doing a workout lol! I won’t lie……when I heard one of the biggest fitness revolutions is now water fitness (on a whole extreme different energetic level) and is particularly big in the UAE, I knew it was something I would love to have a go at.
L’Atelier Aquafitness located on Al Wasl Road in Dubai is a high-end Aquafitness boutique studio with an amazing healthy lifestyle concept revolving around Aquabiking, Iyashi Dome and a Detox Juice and Tea Bar. I was excited to try a class here because of the whole intimacy and cozy aspect of the boutique studio and the fact that the classes are quite small, you feel you are getting more of a personal training session. Instead of trying a regular Aquabiking Introductory class (which familiarises you with the bike and how the class structure works) I took the ‘cart before the horse’ and went straight to a hardcore Aquatraining class. Probably a bit too adventurous for me for my first session but I thought….meh……circuit training……I’ve done a few circuits in my time, can’t be that difficult!? Well….I didn’t realise I’d be jumping on trampolines in the water! Yes…..you read that right…..there are TRAMPOLINES in the water! Between the Aquabiking, Aquajumping and Aquaboxing (with specially designed boxing gloves for the water might I add!) I was certainly put through my paces!
It’s also one of those classes (and exercise studio’s) where you can’t really skulk around at the back of the class and not ‘give-it-your-all’ coz nobody is going to see you! No…..there is no ‘hiding’ as it’s such a small intimate class and pool so you can be seen from every angle. My amazing Aquafitness instructor Loreen wasn’t letting me get away with any shortcuts either…….she was on hand through the whole class ensuring I used the correct techniques etc but she also kept me motivated which is personally what I need in a class. Would I go back again? Yes, as I was traveling to Ireland right after I took this class, I didn’t get a chance to go back to experience another one so once I’m back after the summer, I would love to get back on that Aquabike. Classes aren’t cheap but they are doing specials over the summer – so if you are keen on giving Aquafitness a go (the benefits alone (see above) sway me) I would recommend L’atelier….the juice bar alone after you’ve done a class is so worth it!
I had the absolute pleasure about a month ago to have my hair cut and styled at the newly opened Italian Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa on Jumeirah Beach Road in Dubai and wow…..what an experience that was. Famed for creating ‘The Method’ in haircutting which today is one of the most respected innovations in haircutting of the past 40 years – it lays its foundations on the natural fall of the hair enhancing the beauty of every client and customising the haircut according to the hair type and characteristics of the individual. I can honestly say, I had one of the best haircuts of my life. It was like watching ‘pure art’ as my stylist Lisa, skillfully used the scissors to enhance my hair bringing it back to its natural state. I felt like she totally understood my hair if you know what I mean. I have fine hair but lots of it so she knew how to tame and control it into a manageable style. First thing I’ll be doing when I get back to Dubai after the summer, is booking an appointment there to get my hair cut again. My lovely experience at Rossano Ferrati resulted me in getting a wonderful little goody-bag with the famed salon’s own products which they sell and use there.
You know when you’ve been given a sample of something to try and it either turns out to be disappointing or actually amazing and you can’t wait to go and buy like the proper bigger version……well the latter is true in this case for these Rossano Ferratti products.
The Grandioso Volumising Shampoo especially designed for Lifeless, Volumless and Fine hair (tick, tick and tick – yep perfectly sums up my hair!) is a daily sulphate-free, moisturising shampoo containing a unique blend of Creatine, Macadamia and Avocado Oils and Ginseng and Bamboo extracts which stimulate and invigorate the hair and scalp. There’s just something about these products that just scream luxury and the fact that you know they have put so much into creating the best possible shampoo when you see how they carefully and precisely cut people’s hair. The smell though. I actually can’t cope with how amazing the smell of this shampoo (and conditioner) is. It even leaves a fabulous aroma in the bathroom which lingers for so long. Where has this shampoo been my whole life?
The Grandioso Volumsing Conditioner again compliments the above shampoo (especially in the aroma department) and detangles, lifts and plumps hair while leaving it smooth, shiny and full of volume.
The Grandioso Volumising Spray is a perfect little product to pop in your handbag which leaves the hair manageable and gives it a good dose of volume. It’s ultra-hydrating containing Creatine and Hydrolized Vegetal Proteins to boost volume whilst protecting the hair from the aggressive effects of blow-drying and styling.
The Favoloso Natural Hair Movement Enhancer is a softening and nourishing spray to invigorate hair volume and movement for a natural-look without build-up. Think of a moisturing dry-shampoo without the stickiness and residue and which conditions the hair.
One thing worth getting back to Dubai for after the summer (and it won’t be the hot, humid, sticky, horrible heat) will be a haircut with one of the Method Directors and a purchase of a couple more of the products.
I briefly spoke about his before on my Instagram account raving on about how good it is……and I’m still here….months later……raving on about it. I was gifted this by a PR company and I’m so glad I was as I would have never gone out to buy it in a pharmacy (where most of their products are sold in Dubai) without trying and gaining knowledge about the brand itself. Containing 6 Hyaluronic Acid molecules, the plumping cream prolongs the results of the skin replenishing treatment. According to it’s description online, this “revolutionary anti-aging cream provides magnificent day-long hydration and moisture while simultaneously reducing the appearance facial creases and loss of volume.” I’ve been using this cream (even purchased my own tube!!) for a while now and always apply it in the mornings. I just think my skin is so much better and smoother looking and I love the thickness and texture of the actual cream even though it feels light on the skin. That description on the actual tube – “Filler action for the face” makes me believe I’m actually enhancing my skin and trying to prevent the ageing process from happening ha, ha!
4. L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara
The plight of finding that perfect mascara!! We’ve all been there…..some always will be and will never rest until their goals in life of tracking down THE perfect mascara and THE perfect foundation have been achieved. Well……is it wrong if I say that I think I’ve found ‘said’ perfect mascara? Or do I still need to keep looking? Hope not because for now…..no other mascara is going to be able to replace this beauty for a while. The packaging indicates ‘L’Oréal Telescopic Mascara features a special brush with a flat side to lengthen lashes up to 60%, and a comb side to separate lashes with precision’. Can I just say…..that amazing brush works miracles. I haven’t had a mascara that works so well in so long and literally gives my lashes unreal volume as well as separation with absolutely no clumps or extra weird elongating fibres. I’m not sure if someone recommended this mascara to me (it’s been around for a while now) and I went out and bought it or…….if I’ve had it all along but this……I need to bulk buy……just in case for some crazy reason L’Oréal decide to discontinue it. Can you imagine the horror!
Just look at that brush ↑ – you need to try it to believe it but trust me you won’t be disappointed.
If you haven’t seen this bag on almost every Instagram influencers feed over the past couple of months……have you even been on Instagram? Hailed as the bag of the summer, this is fast becoming Summer 2017’s ‘It’ bag and the perfect little accessory to accompany you on either a beach holiday or city break (or even pub as in my case!). It exudes that cool, tropical island look and just seems to look perfect with absolutely every summer outfit. I purchased mine from fab online Dubai-based accessories boutique Sage & Stella and every time I wear the bag, I receive so many compliments. These woven, raffia, Balinese style bags are definitely a must have and gaining momentum within the fashion-set, so if you’re in the middle of planning your summer holiday wardrobe, you probably need one of these to complete it 😉
So that concludes my little round-up of what I’ve been enjoying the past month or so. I love doing these little mini-reviews but I always want to make sure, I have stuff worth talking about if you know what I mean. I get gifted a couple of things (beauty products etc) from PR companies but it doesn’t mean I like everything that’s sent. The stuff I do like, I will always let my readers know and anyone that wants to listen ha, ha! Let me know if any of you have tried any of these and what you think? Until next time…………….
