I just want to live in a place where Prosecco is cheaper than water! There…..I’ve said it! And I just MAY have found ‘said’ place. Malta……a small archipelago island with just three of its largest islands inhabited – Malta, Gozo and Comino – lies in the Mediterranean Sea with Sicily to the South. It’s probably one of the most laid-back places you will ever visit, with an abundance of beautiful towns, boat trips, amazing and varied culture, periwinkle sea, the nicest people and breathtaking views. In fact, its near impossible to take a bad scenic photo in Malta. You can be sailing in the stunning Blue Lagoon in the morning, by the afternoon you can be touring around the rural greenery of Gozo and admiring its beautiful churches (I’m still convinced there are more churches than actual people on Gozo) and in the evening you can be strolling through the historic and pretty streets of Valetta immersed in the culture and prettiness of the old style streets before catching some of the cool nightlife and vibrant cafes, bars and restaurants in the neighbouring bays of St. Julians, St. George’s and Spinola as well as Silema.. It’s just not your typical Mediterranean beach type destination – there’s a lot to do and enough to satisfy everyone.
I fortunately had the pleasure of visiting Malta a couple of weeks ago as a good friend of mine from home (Ireland) was getting married. I myself got married on this beautiful island five years ago (I like to think I inspired my friend ha, ha!) so it was like re-living my own wedding day without the
stress…….and I have to say, the place was just as amazing as it was all those years ago. Not only was I excited to see my friend get married in one of my favourite places in the world, I’ll be honest with you, I was delighted to be escaping the hot desert of Dubai for a week and experience some cooler temperatures. I basically went from 44 degrees Celsius in the furnace (as I like to call it) to about 24 degrees with a light breeze………so I won’t lie to you, it was heaven and I did not miss the hot, sandy, humid desert one bit!
Tourism is a massive and important industry to Malta and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to hotels and apartments etc. I stayed in the Westin Dragonara Resort in Malta which is a five star hotel and also very popular for weddings as there is a fab wedding venue adjacent to the hotel overlooking the Med……..backdrop = STUNNING! The hotel was equally as fab, service and facilities were excellent, staff were great and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
I basically positioned myself right there in that picture (above) everyday by the water with nobody to bother me! (Did I tell you I was sans-kids and sans-husband?).
When I mentioned at the beginning of this post about the Prosecco……I wasn’t kidding! A glass of Prosecco is about €3/AED12…….coming from Dubai – that’s basically free. With it being a port and island heavily reliant on a huge fishing industry, you actually cannot find a bad seafood restaurant. FACT. So my diet of the week consisted of copious amounts of pasta and seafood…….needless to say, I was more than happy with that.
So to coincide with the fact that I was back on this piece of Mediterranean paradise, my holiday wardrobe consisted of gingham, tassels, pom poms, colour, one-shoulder and off-the-shoulder ‘rig-outs’ and basically screamed ‘HELLO SUMMER 2017, I’M ON HOLIDAYS AND MY FRIENDS THE ‘TRENDS’ ALL CAME WITH ME’!
Here’s a little style round-up of my week in Malta……………..
Like most girls planning their summer holidays this year……..Zara was the main culprit in almost bankrupting me. ASOS are a tad to blame also but that Spanish brand has a lot to answer for when it comes to stocking the nicest summer trends around.

Without sounding overly ‘cringy’ coz I’m not that type of person………..I do think I’ve found my ‘soul place’ in Malta. Is that even a thing? ‘Soul-place’? Well, if it is or isn’t…..I want to go back there like all the time. I want to bring the kids there next time and show them where their Mammy and Daddy got married. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. I’ll never get tired of the amazingly clear blue water especially in the Blue Lagoon, of the charismatic strong Maltese accents – which I adore, of the fresh food and cheap Prosecco, the local beer (Cisk), the famous Hera boats which look like they’ve just stepped out of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie set, the fact that the most beautiful Catholic churches adorn the island and are literally on every street corner, the sunsets and that Mediterranean climate with its warm breeze. Yes, I can officially say….at this moment in time, the Med is trumping the Desert.
Until next time………….Ciao
