Its been sooooo long since I’ve done a beauty blog post. Truth been told……I just haven’t bought anything new which I would deem worth a blog post……until now that is. Enter Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation into my life. Erm……why has it taken me so long to purchase this amazeballs foundation? I admit…..this has been on my radar for quite some time now and as I was traveling through Duty Free in Dubai to go home to Ireland last week I thought……now is a good time to buy this ‘cult’ foundation and not spend the Sephora price ha, ha.
Just to add…….I normally travel with my two very young children which means airports and Duty Free shopping can be quite chaotic and basically I get zero time to just wander around at my perusal and buy all-of-the-stuff. So this was a ‘once-in-a-lifetime-chance’ to stock up on my essentials, have some ‘me-time’ and enjoy the fab Dubai Duty Free.
Disclaimer: Just to point out also and I think my paragraph above is quite self-explanatory ha, ha – this is not a sponsored post, I’m not affiliated in anyway with Giorgio Armani and I basically, with all of my beauty blog posts – buy everything myself and give my opinion on said products along with a little review.
So, you know that hunch you get when you buy something and you just know it’s gonna be as you thought it would? Well, thats how I feel about this. The salesperson at the Giorgio Armani concession stand at Dubai Duty Free really knew her stuff especially in relation to finding the right shade for me. After sampling some of the testers, I found out I was between a shade 4 and 5. Shade 4 had quite a pink undertone whilst shade 5 had more of a yellow base and to my complete surprise, the salesperson told me they did half shades which meant 4.5 was ideal. This actually made my day as 4.5 was the perfect combination ‘tone-wise’ for my skin. Never underestimate the feeling of finding that completely PERFECT foundation shade…….it’s the little things don’cha know!
I’d like to say at this point also – that I am FOREVER on the hunt for ‘that’ perfect foundation and mascara. Anyone else? I won’t rest in life until I find a foundation that makes my skin look about 12 and a mascara that makes my eyelashes look like Bambi’s. #sorrynotsorry
Packaging wise…….nothing out-of-this-world. It’s sleek and simple with a nice little pump dispenser plus quite compact and slim – perfect fit for a handbag.
As you can see in the above pics, I’ve swatched the foundation which totally matches my skin with great coverage. I wore it for the first time when I was in Ireland at a wedding and I’m not gonna lie – I had so many people compliment my makeup. I haven’t done anything different with my skin (and it’s not that great at the moment if I’m being honest) so I knew I was onto a good thing with this foundation. When beauty editors say Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk is their ‘holy grail’, I can now see why.
I was a tiny bit skeptical about this in the first place as I knew it had a matte finish – whereas I’m more a fan of a nice dewy look. BUT I will say I was more than pleasantly surprised. I applied it with a Beauty Blender (which in my opinion is the best way to apply it) and it just has this beautiful silky texture which blends unbelievably good covering every blemish, redness and dark circle you can find. The finish has a somewhat velvet-matte appearance and one which I felt didn’t need a loose setting powder. I just applied some Urban Decay ‘All Nighter’ Setting Spray and I was good to go.
Also for me, the coverage is just perfect. It’s so light on the skin, you hardly notice it thanks to some clever ‘fabric technology’ – Micro-fil – ‘which is a new generation of extremely lightweight, highly luminous formulas that present colours and textures in a new different way offering seamless application and incredible softness and comfort.’ I suppose if I had to compare it to something I already have and use – it would be Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. Again, another fab ‘cult’ product many make-up artists swear by. I love this but as I’m a fan of more lightweight foundations, I solely use this for night-time purposes as the coverage is quite heavy for me. So this is where my loyalties have now shifted from Charlotte to Giorgio! The latter is so versatile and blendable on the skin, I can choose to wear it during the day mixed with some moisturiser and then for a more heavier night-time look building it up on my skin.
Will I be re-purchasing this? Hell yeah! It costs AED196 (approx €50/£44) in Dubai Duty Free so it’s a bit of a saving from buying it in Sephora where it retails at approximately AED250 (approx €64/£56). In terms of being a bit more pricier than your average drug-store foundation or even high-end products, I think it’s totally worth the splurge. The Kardashians and Chrissy Teigen claim to be fans of this wonder product and you have to admit, their skin always looks flawless……so if it’s good enough for Kim………..!! I can’t believe I am only trying this foundation now though……I feel like exclaiming ‘where have you been all my life’? It truly deserves all the hype it receives.
