Lets be honest, exfoliating your lips is probably not at the forefront of most girls minds as much as exfoliating the body or face? I put my hands up and admit, up until now, I’ve actually never exfoliated my lips properly with product – except maybe the odd time with an old toothbrush……..ok that’s probably happened twice in my life!
So why now? Its inevitable…..I’m not getting any younger – I’ve come to terms with that now ha, ha and lip exfoliation is ‘hot’ right now and big business in the beauty industry. When you think about it – we spend so much time having facials and body-scrubs and exfoliating our face and every inch of the skin on our bodies – so why wouldn’t we do the same for our lips? I’m sure they’ll thank us for it…..eventually!
Enter the Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub into my life and because of this little beauty – I can now officially say – I’m addicted to lip scrubs! I mean…..where has this been my whole life? Anyone? Despite the fact that I literally want to EAT it all after applying it, it works so well and basically does what it says on the tin. Plus I’m a big fan of Lush in general and ethically what they stand for – always striving for natural products and no testing on animals.
Made with cold pressed Jojoba oil, castor sugar and with a delicious candy floss/bubblegum flavour – I dare you not to try and eat it…..go on!! The sugary consistency is quite loose in the jar so what I do is, after wetting my lips, I quickly pick up some of the product with my finger and rub it/slather it all over my lips. Then once I’m satisfied with my little exfoliation procedure, I then wipe off the excess with some water and a face cloth. Easy-peasey and very effective. I try to use the lip scrub once a week and when I’m feeling hungry (joke) so I try to incorporate it into the nights I usually do a face mask. They say once a week is sufficient but if you live in a colder climate and during the winter months, you may need to exfoliate more regularly.
So why do we need to scrub our lips?
Well firstly, removing dead skin from your lips brings out new fresh layers making lips soft, smooth and kissable.
Because of this new smooth lip surface, lipsticks, lip-liner and lip glosses all last longer and look much better on.
Lips retain their moisture longer which in turn prevents cracked lips.
Lip scrubbing helps to avoid chapped lips from many harsh weather elements.
So if that isn’t reason enough to use a lip scrub, then I don’t know what is! I’m embarrassed to admit though I’ve neglected my lips up until now but it makes total sense – if you have a clean and smooth blank canvas, products will sit better!
From doing a bit of my own research into good lip scrubs out there, the Lush one came up trumps the whole time and with such a reasonable price point of £5.50/€7/AED30 – it’s a complete bargain in my estimation for what you get. The only negative connotations that seem to arise is the fact that you can basically make your own lip scrub at home very simply with ingredients such as coconut oil can brown/castor sugar so why would you go buy it? But I’m gonna reverse that and say for almost a cup of coffee and chocolate eclair (yes I have chocolate on my mind constantly!) you can pop into your local friendly Lush store and pick up this pretty jar that will look really nice in your bathroom and there’s no messing around in the kitchen. I reckon thats my lazy side coming out because whilst I think your own DIY products are great, I sometimes just prefer going out and buying them – #sorrynotsorry!!
You can pick up this gem in any Lush store or online here. Be careful though once entering said store as I cannot promise that you will come out with just the one product! Let me know if any of you have tried it and what your views are on it and also if there are any more good lip scrubs out there. For now…….happy scrubbing and remember you’re kissable lips will thank you for it later………
