So as I don’t often do any Lifestyle blog posts (even though there is clearly a Lifestyle tag on my actual blog) I thought, maybe I should add one to look like I’m a proper blogger?? Ha, ha! But seriously…..as some of you may know, we recently moved house and had great fun (sometimes stressful might I add) buying, choosing and decorating our new place and find a style we both were happy with. So say hello to our new pad with that whole cool and contemporary Scandi-chic vibe going on – we hope……well that was the look we compromised on and went for so lets hope we did it justice?
So what I’ve decided to do is a series of blog posts dedicated to our new pad going through a couple of the rooms that may interest some of you or maybe not at all ha, ha! In other words, just be prepared for an influx of photos! A couple of friends actually suggested I do this to add a varied mix of content to my blog and I suppose being featured in Aquarius magazine here in Dubai has given me the confidence also. Aquarius magazine which is a monthly Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle women’s magazine based here in Dubai featured my home in a fab 4-page spread which I was so chuffed about and super-proud (currently in shops….just a couple of days left in November though!).
So as I’ve mentioned above, the main aim of the whole style and vibe of our living room and dining room was a very clean, contemporary and white Scandinavian look. Yes…..white……I know! Two kids under 3……..we must be mad! So when we are not running around with a bottle of Jif in our hands and wet wipes in the other, it’s actually working out ok (he,he).
I’ll be honest with you, the mecca of all-things-Scaninavian-style – Ikea – was our ‘go-to’ store with this move. And wait for it……I’m gonna be really honest now……….I find there’s a certain stigma attached to Ikea especially here in the Middle East where Ikea is almost looked down upon. It’s almost like the way Primark/Penney’s is in the UK and Ireland. It’s as if people are embarrassed to say where they got their clothes/furniture from! For me personally, I love when someone pays me a compliment on a top I’m wearing or dress etc and ask where it’s from. And if it’s from Primark – I will always say it loud and proud. The same with Ikea.
Ok rant over and moving on lol!
This table for instance is from Ikea and it just fits the theme of the room perfectly. The chairs are from Dragonmart (and are a very good replica of the Eames chairs) which is well known in Dubai as a haven for everything related to homewares, DIY, and furniture.
Staying with Ikea, we could not pass up this sideboard as it complements the table perfectly with that white, glossy finish. It has excellent storage and more importantly it’s easy to keep clean coz you know – the toddlers!
I have two main ‘go-to’ websites when it comes to quirky prints – SS Print Shop and Printabold. I could literally go mad on both those sites and basically want all of the prints. Have a look, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Again another fab Ikea find – this white cabinet with frosted panels is the perfect addition to the room. I actually love the fact that the windows are frosted – you don’t have to worry about the contents looking super pretty as they are well concealed.
Anyone that knows me, knows I’m obsessed with rose gold and these lanterns from Marina Home were on my radar for quite a while. I just had to have them and I really think they add a slight pop of colour to the room and break up a lot of the white sterile look.
Yes, as you can see, there is no getting away from the rose-gold. This gorgeous lamp was such a good find from The One, another fab home interiors shop here in Dubai. Again, it adds a nice bit of colour to the room and almost frames the seating/living area from the dining room area.
Our living (adult only lounge) area is probably one of my favourite places in the house. The room itself is so bright and airy and a complete relaxation zone (when I’m able to!!) to just sit, read and have a cup of tea. The two sofa’s (Ikea of course) lend themselves to the tone of the room with their on-trend grey colour and I’m very excited to say that the fab marble cushions are from none-other than Primark. Yes, I brought them back from Ireland or should I say squeezed them with great difficulty into my luggage.
I think the coffee table has to be THE one item myself and my husband actually love. The fab solid piece of wood is from Marina Home and adds a bit of warmth to the room. I’m so glad that we didn’t go with a white coffee table as I really think it would have made the room seem quite like an ‘operating theatre’ given the white sterile look of some of the furniture.
To say myself and my husband have a slight obsession with aviation is an understatement. The three prints in the top picture are vintage posters which I collected during my days in the airline industry as a cabin crew member and subsequently framed. The Life Magazine print is from Getty Images and is one myself and my husband both picked as we love the vintage and historical element to it.
So there you have it, a sneak peak into our living room/dining area. There’s still a little bit to do with the house itself but we are slowly getting there (as they say – you are never quite finished when it comes to your home). I’m planning on writing up a blog post on another room in the near future so watch this space. As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for giving it a little read. If anyone has any cool Scandi-style touches or ideas please send them my way.
Thank you again, see you all here very soon and remember……………
