Following on with my series of blog posts featuring fashion designers from the region, one in particular which I was drawn to with her amazing warm, summer ‘ready-to-wear’ collection was award winning Hissa Zainal. Based out of Doha in Qatar her HZ by Hissa Zainal collection ‘marries a dramatic avant-garde sensibility with timeless simplicity’
About the Collection:
Inspired by the summer months, the warmth of the sun, the salty ocean breeze and fragrant vivid blooms, the Resort 2017 collection combines fresh tones with relaxed silhouettes, creating a fun and feminine aesthetic. Fabrics are crisp and versatile in light cotton and denim, suitable for hot summer days. Embellished sheer overlays, statement cutouts and ties add a modern feel while relaxed tailoring and ruffled sleeves create a nonchalant chic aesthetic. Embroidered flowers, hand illustrated by Hissa Zainal herself add a youthful and whimsical touch to the collection.
This dress in particular from her fab collection not only spoke to me – it screamed……WEAR ME! It is such a perfect dress for Dubai – encompassing all the main summer trends in one whilst having that air of conservative class. The length is perfect in that it has that comfy maxi feel but as the style is in a shirt dress form, you can button-up or button-down whichever being your preference. I think what I love most about this look and dress is that it has basically all the main summer trends covered in one including: ↓
One-shoulder detail: √
Deconstructed shirt-style: √
Sleeve ties and ruffles: √
Embroidered floral print: √
Again, emphasising the suitability factor for the climate in the Gulf region especially during the hot summer months, this cool crisp cotton material in a statement dress form is all you need to avoid ‘sweaty-Betty’ disasters. This photo-shoot with the amazing Claire Stafford actually took place in Al Qudra desert – early June and thankfully in the evening just before the harsh Middle Eastern sun set. This was probably one of the easiest pieces to wear from the whole shoot because of that cool cotton material and I suppose the fact that there was a surprisingly nice breeze to ward off any humidity woes.
In terms of my accessories, they are all High Street. I love nothing more than being able to mix high street with high end and that’s something that will never change in me……ever. I’m a high street girl at heart which is evident from almost all of my previous blog posts. The accessories are all items which I’ve had for a while now – the yellow mules are H&M, the clutch bag is Primark and the yellow tassel earrings are also H&M.
I absolutely loved styling this dress as it’s so versatile plus I really think the accessories help the ‘yellow’ in the fabric pop. It would also be fab paired with a pair of trainers/runners such as Converse and worn over a pair of white denim jeans or white/cream loose fitting wide trousers with heels.
If you need any further details about Hissa Zainal or in particular – this actual dress – take a look here. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this very talented and creative fashion designer has in store for Autumn/Winter 2017. If it’s anything like her Spring/Summer collection, it definitely won’t disappoint.
Until next time with a cute Mommy & me feature………take care and chat soon.
