Hi everyone, I’m back with a little beauty post and I am very excited about this one!
I dunno……all things makeup and beauty products just make me happy – anyone else?? Of course, the buying of the makeup and beauty products also makes me happy until the guilt starts setting in (a.k.a…..the credit card fear) but then, life’s too short eh……just buy the stuff, thats what I say!
So, in this post, I wanna talk about the phonomenon that is Morphe Brushes – the new Queen of the Makeup Brush industry. If you don’t know who or what Morphe Brushes is…….erm…….where have you been? And if you also don’t know who Jaclyn Hill is (Beauty vlogger and Youtube sensation with almost 4 million subscribers) – you need to get on Youtube quick and check her out!
Organically endorsed by Jaclyn Hill through her Youtube channel, who gave the company and their products a huge stamp of approval, Morphe Brushes have seen a cult following which rivals some of the major players in the beauty industry today. With 3.3 million Instagram followers, the brand has been growing from strength to strength over the past couple of years and is now a firm favourite amongst professional makeup artists, beauty bloggers, vloggers, Youtube stars (Jaclyn Hill, Manny MUA and Kathleen Lights to name but a few.) The background is also a real ‘rags-to-riches’ story and from what I hear, owners Linda and Chris Tawil (sister and brother) are probably two of the nicest people in the beauty industry today killing the competition with their clever social media strategies and relationships with top industry beauty bloggers. They have completely revolutionised the beauty industry with their innovative make up brushes and tools (on a par with the likes of Sigma, Zoeva, MAC and Real Techniques) at completely affordable prices! Thats the key word here guys – AFFORDABLE. Yes, you won’t believe how amazing value these brushes are……for what you get.
Below is a fab video by Jaclyn Hill which gives a bit more insight into Morphe Brushes and her own personal favourites which I am also going to talk about. I actually watched this after I got my brushes and so glad that 3 of the ones I have, are also her fav’s. Plus she is quite endearing to watch and I just love love love her energy…..I could watch her for hours!
Have a look…………↓
So without further ado………..lets talk about the actual brushes and find out why your next makeup brush purchase…..must be a Morphe Brush one.
Disclaimer alert: No, I am not sponsored by Morphe in anyway, I just think they are amazing quality for what you pay (and I’m all for a good bargain!) so because of that, I am completely recommending them and dying to get more myself.
Anyone traveling to LA, needs to put the Morphe Brush shop on the itinerary AND (very important) you need to have done your research and know EXACTLY what you want as the ‘Morphe Brush store experience’ is not like anything else you will experience as my sister found out. So I casually sent my sister off to the store whilst she was in LA over the summer, to…..you know…..pick up a few face and eye brushes for me as I had heard so much about Morphe – I wanted to try them out. Little did she (we) know……..you need to get to the store at the crack of dawn as the queue (YES THE QUEUE) is out the door and down the street like something from an Apple Store the morning the latest iPhone is released! Totally unprepared for this, said sister then took her place amongst the ever so ‘knew-exactly-what-they-were-looking-for’ beauty enthusiasts and MUA’s alike and preceded to also pretend to know what she was doing! She then noticed, all these ‘beauty people’ were armed with LISTS – both paper and notes on their iPhones! At this stage, we were both in contact with each other on Whatsapp and panic was setting in on her side as she was unprepared for the inevitable which was makeup brush heaven! My sister (also Irish – so she can basically talk to anyone!) got talking to some of these super cool beauty people and thankfully found out from their inside information – what she needed when she got into the store and before she became overwhelmed with it all!
You cannot just walk into the Morphe Brushes store on a whim – YOU NEED TO HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK AND NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT…….SO YOU NEED A PLAN!
So armed with her now new and essential information, said sister became one of those prepared and heavily researched beauty enthusiasts and eventually got into the store after a long wait in the hot sun. She grabbed all of the brushes ha, ha, along with some great make up tools, and picked up one of their fab eyeshadow palettes which is ‘too-die-for’! RESULT!!
My new favourite makeup brushes
So lets start with the face and go through these five brushes……..first up……….
M706 – Pointed Foundation Brush
I actually prefer a stipple brush to blend and buff out my foundation so it makes a nice change to use this pointed foundation brush on my face for a different application process. Made with synthetic bristles, I love how it’s so pointed as it really gets the product into every corner of your face, blending perfectly with no strokes. The angled tip also makes it an excellent brush to apply concealer. I’m also really enjoying how my foundation is looking on my face these days mainly due to this brush. After I’ve applied my base, I usually use a firm stipple brush to buff afterwards but in terms of foundation application, I really cannot fault this brush. Retailing at $2.99 – you cannot go wrong!
E34 – Tapered Blush Brush
As one of Jaclyn Hill’s favourite, I can totally see why she uses this brush in almost all of her make-up demos. The tapered brush with synthetic bristles has a perfectly narrow shaped head for precise application of blusher as well as an awesome tool for that razor sharp contour. Jaclyn Hill actually uses it to blend out her bronzer which again cements it as a multi-functional brush and a must-have for your makeup bag. Retailing at $16.99 its a bit pricier than the others but definitely worth it in terms of quality.
M441 – Pro Firm Blending Crease Brush
Another firm favourite in Jaclyn Hill’s make-up bag, this is the ultimate ‘crease’ brush. Blending is essential these days in order to achieve that flawless ‘eye-popping’ eyeshadow application and if you have a good blending brush for your cut-crease area, it makes the job so much easier. This brush is super fluffy and with goat bristles it just blends the eyeshadow so evenly with such ease. It’s also super cheap at $5.99 so a ‘no-brainer’ really!
M433 – Pro Firm Blending Fluff Brush
If I had to pick my absolute favourite of this bunch, it would be this brush. Again, another must-have according to Jaclyn Hill, this tapered goat-bristle brush has a pinched ferrule that gives it the versatility either to be used on the flat side for shading or on the tip for seamless blending. I’ve been using this a lot to pack my shadow onto my eyelid and then go into the crease and blend, blend, blend. In fact, both M433 and M441 are a really good combination to be used in conjunction with one another to achieve that perfectly blended smokey-eye look. Also retailing at $5.99, the value is fantastic.
M157 – Firm Shadow Brush
This dual-ended makeup brush is probably the one I’ve used the least. It’s specifically designed for a more detailed eye shadow application and because I’m the type of person that’s always rushing, I find in order to justify using this brush more, I would need to spend more time perfecting my eyes. I love it for creating a dramatic night time look and the stiff smaller tip is ideal for applying eyeliner.
So there you have it, a little snippet and mini-haul of my Morphe Brushes purchases. Hope you find this helpful and if anyone is looking to buy some more makeup brushes, want to revamp their makeup brush collection or just want to try something new, you can’t go wrong with Morphe when it comes to quality and price.
