I’ll be honest with ya………two kids later (less than two years apart) and my body isn’t what it used to be. In fact, I believe its actually changed shape in a lot of ways. My back seems broader, hips wider, bizarrely my feet a tad bigger and my boobs…….well we all know the toll it takes on our boobs! I’m not saying there is anything wrong with this – there isn’t – it has produced two healthy, happy babies and I will be forever grateful to that little body of mine. But……as any mom in particular will know – there is an urge in us all…..to get that bloody pre-pregnancy, pre-baby body back if we can, if we have time and if we’re not too damn tired. Fast forward to the beginning of this year – almost three and a half years since I had my first little baby and decided it was time I did something about getting fit again and trying to get my body confidence back. I went on a diet and fitness programme cutting out sugar and carbs and ran about 3 times a week – see here. I felt great, managed to lose a few kilos and went down a dress size. The programme has become more of a lifestyle now and I’ve learned it’s all about balance. There are days and sometimes weeks when I’ve totally fallen off the diet and fitness bandwagon but I just try and get back on it again and take up where I left off. In saying all this and after regaining some body confidence back……I felt my tummy area still looked the same? I still didn’t want to get into a bikini, in fact…….since having my kids, I’ve only bought one-piece swimsuits as I felt just awful in a bikini…..flabby to be precise. I looked down and all I saw were rolls of fat and unless I became a complete fanatical gym-bunny…….I thought there was no way of ever shifting this excess tummy weight.
So, when I went to the launch and found out about SculpSure – ‘a non-invasive body contouring system for the reduction of stubborn fat in areas such as the abdomen and love handles’ and which is quite new to the Middle East, in particular Dubai…..I was intrigued. Mainly because…….it cost so much! It’s approximately AED5000 for one session (lasting 25 minutes) so for that price….you would expect results….right? Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to experience a complimentary session of SculpSure and to review my experience. I won’t lie to you……..I’m very skeptical of cosmetic and non-surgical procedures in their validity so this was all very new to me. I’m a firm believer that you work hard for results in terms of what you eat and exercise so ‘quick-fix’ solutions never really appealed to me.
But…..I was excited to try this because after all I had nothing to lose (or in my case…..I had a hell of a lot of fat to lose!!!!) and if this helped my tummy area even a little bit…..I would have been delighted. The 25 minute procedure destroys 24% of treated fat cells without surgery – again…..I was very intrigued. Within the UAE there are approximately 8 – 10 SculpSure machines in various clinics with staff specifically trained in how to use and execute (literally) the fat eliminating procedure. I went to Dr. Simin Medical Centre in Jumeirah in Dubai and honestly I couldn’t fault the staff in particular a fab nurse called Yasmin who talked me through the procedure, made me feel so comfortable and answered any questions I had.
How it works:
- Applicators are placed on the desired treatment area to administer light-based energy which targets and heats fat cells under the skin without affecting the skin’s surface.
- SculpSure raises the temperature of fat cells damaging their structural integrity. ‘Contact Cooling’ stays on throughout the treatment, which keeps the skin safe and comfortable. As soon as the heat (pain) becomes unbearable…the cooling action immediately takes over.
- The damaged fat cells are removed naturally from your body through your lymphatic system (which is why the after-care instructions requires you to drink lots of water).
- Once the fat cells are removed from your body……they cannot regrow.
Is it painful?
Ok, so people have different pain thresholds – I like to think mine is pretty high. If anyone has experienced really bad period-cramps, it’s more or less the same. The whole 25 minutes actually reminded me a little bit of being in labour because once the applicators started heating your skin…..I felt like I was having a mild-contraction. It actually wasn’t that bad at all and the time flew by.
Did it work? (The most important question)
I think I’ll just let the pictures below speak for themselves…………(warning you are about to see quite ‘in-your-face’ pics of my tummy…..#sorrynotsorry)
I’ll be totally honest with you…..those ‘before’ pics of me – I actually refused to believe that was me…..until I realised…..yep I did wear those green trousers and black top during the first session. I was mortified. How was I soooo bloated looking and nobody told me? I actually think…..looking at those ‘before’ pics….I still look pregnant? As you can see yourself from the pics, it’s quite a result. Truth be told….I was shocked at the difference. I could feel it in my clothes also and what I will say is……I wasn’t doing any extra exercise or very strict with my diet. I was running maybe once/twice a week as it had gotten so hot in Dubai so these results blew me away.
It took 4 weeks to see those results from the first session of the actual procedure. During those 4 weeks and 2 weeks after the first initial treatment, a complimentary Velashape session was offered (which is a medical machine that offers an intense, warm, deep massage on the treated area) to enhance the entire procedure and help eliminate the fat further.
Would I recommend it?
You know what…….for someone like me who’s very skeptical about procedures such as this…..it’s changed my mind. There is no shame in someone wanting that extra bit of help in shifting some fat in stubborn areas. If there’s a way to cheat and make yourself feel and look better….then why not! Life’s too short!
On that note…..I’m gonna leave you with this little positive affirmation. Thanks as always for stopping by………and remember…….
