Right, after filling my blog with some content that had been on the back-burner all summer, it’s time to get back to business and back to writing about my fav topic……..the High Street and whats in the shops and online right now. As you can probably tell from my Instagram, I’ve been doing a bit (ok a lot!) of shopping recently but I like to justify it all (coz…ya know….the guilt!) by telling myself a new season is almost upon us (Autumn/Winter) and basically if you snooze…….you lose…..and everything you want in the shops and online will be gone! Buy or Cry Later……True story! So it’s almost as if……I dunno……I panic-buy around this time of year? Anyone else do it? The high street is starting to fill its glorious shelves with gorgeous hues of burgundy, navy, auburn and mustard in the most luxurious textures such as velvet, suede and leather……and it’s as if you can almost smell the leaves falling off the trees and those dark evenings coming home to a cosy fire! Do you have that perfect Autumnal scene in your head right now?!? Yes? No?
I’ll elaborate……..anyone that knows me well……knows I’m a tad obsessed with Autumn and Winter even though I live in Dubai – in the hot desert…..basically a furnace most of the year. With only two seasons – Winter – which lasts like 3 or 4 months if we are lucky and Summer – hot, sweaty and relentless for the rest of the year – my obsession with Autumn has reached a whole other level after living in Dubai almost 12 years. I go crazy for clothes this time of year as well as coats, jackets, knitwear and boots – basically anything I can’t wear in Dubai for most of the year bar one or two months.
So now that we have established that I’m an ‘Autumn-aholic’………expect a series of blog posts over the next coming weeks and months chatting about my fav coats, knitwear, accessories, trends, party looks and class outfits that will see you through Autumn and Winter looking your stylish best. I’ll be sourcing my top picks in our favourite online stores and putting them in a blog post which makes shopping that whole lot easier right? Some of us don’t have time to trawl the high street especially if we are mums and have 2 + kids in tow with a buggy and all that paraphernalia so sometimes it’s easier to have what you like right in front of you on a computer screen.
One of my recent blog posts – I spoke about my top picks from Zara – see here – which I really enjoyed putting together so for this post I’m gonna look at H&M and basically – my current wish-list from the online store right now. Everything I would love to put in my online basket and go to the check out immediately………..(warning – there’s a lot of RED)
As you can see above I bought this dress – who wore it better ha, ha!. The red boots are sold out on H&M online but the ones I’m wearing are from Zara – buy them here – and are a complete exact replica. This dress is the perfect little transitional piece for the end of summer as you can team it with flat mules or sandals (what I’ll be doing in Dubai) or a nice leather jacket and boots as above for Autumn. It will also look equally apt for the upcoming season by wearing a red, forest green or black polo jumper underneath for some clever cosy layering. What I also love about this dress is that although it feels light and airy whilst wearing it (again perfect for a hot desert climate) the material has such a lovely heaviness to it – not like a cheap cotton…..which makes it that tad more expensive looking. Plus most importantly……..IT HAS POCKETS! #winning
Speaking of polo-necks……how fab is this one? This is basically Autumn in one gorgeous piece of knitwear. ↓
Camel colour √
Puffed sleeves √
Fine ribbed wool √
Fitted style √
Screaming 70’s style √
I’m in love with this whole look from the boots to the bright sky-blue top but the skirt is something that I know I’d get so much wear out of for the next season and possibly onwards into Spring. The colour is key and will look amazing teamed with a pair of trainers and a slouchy cream knit as well as a fab pair of suede over-the-knee boots.
If you know me and familiar with my Instagram and blog you’ll know I love a good jumpsuit. In fact, I would say it’s a staple wardrobe item. It can be dressed up or down, so easy to throw on and can feature as an ‘all-year’ go-to item in your wardrobe. So inevitably this fab jumpsuit is a no-brainer because not only is it screaming red – a key colour for the upcoming season, it will look amazing at Christmas teamed with a pair of pointy ankle boots and killer accessories on many a ‘Christmas-night-out’. Equally throw on a pair of Converse and a khaki jacket and you’ve nailed a trendy casual look with this.
It wouldn’t be an Autumn wish-list haul if I didn’t include some mustard…..now would it? This will see you through Autumn and Winter and will probably go with almost everything in your wardrobe from denim to black leather leggings. Mustard is also gorgeous with white….so if you have a pair of wide-legged white or cream trousers or culottes or even white denim jeans, don’t be afraid to team this amazing Autumnal colour with it. I’m dying to team it with some navy or burgundy velvet boots with a black leather or navy tartan skirt. Yes…….I have given this some thought as you have probably figured out! #sorrynotsorry. P.S: This jumper is also available in a soft grey.
We are getting back into the season where check/tartan style shirts will begin to grace the stores and kinda get us in the mood for Christmas? Yes/No? Either way………they’re a style staple for Autumn/Winter and surprise surprise….this mustard and black one caught my eye with that cute little sequinned appliqué. Not only would it look great styled under the mustard jumper above as a cosy layered day time look…….it can be equally dressed up for a night out with a black fitted leather or PVC skirt.
Distressed denim is not going anywhere for a while and the raw frayed, edge on the hem of these are giving me life. Ok slight exaggeration……buy you know what I mean! This is a huge trend again following on from summer and this fab cropped length really shows off all the amazing boots such as sock boots, velvet and suede boots that are also currently trending right now.
The more I look at the H&M website, the more I want all of the knits. So here’s another one for good measure. This is definitely up there as one of my favourites because:
♥ the colour
♥ the style – those voluminous sleeves again
♥ currently obsessing over polo-necks
Flounces on sleeves are everywhere right now. If your jumper doesn’t have flounced sleeves……..is it even a jumper? From stripes to knits, it seems this is one trend that has taken off. I like it as it turns your top into more of a statement piece….BUT…….during the colder season….be warned…..they can be annoying under layers such as coats and jackets. Bulky arms come to mind! I love this oversized one thought as it’s something that I would totally wear all year round.
Along with distressed denim and frills, one-shoulder tops still seem to be having a moment. In line with the forthcoming season, this top (also available in white) ups the ante a tad making it the perfect choice for late Summer/early Autumn and not forgetting those Christmassy nights out. This would look amazing teamed with black wide legged trousers or leather skinnies.
H&M are seriously KILLING it right now with their up-to-date trends and fabulous styles. There’s so many fab clothes online right now – I haven’t even had a chance to pick my favourite accessories – thats a whole other blog post in the making so watch this space.
Hope you enjoyed the post and got some ideas for your Autumn wardrobes plus let me know if you’ve purchased any of the above and what you think! I’m heading back to Dubai very soon (with a heavy heart might I add) and back to summer (thats a whole very emotional blog post waiting to be written…maybe?) buy even if I have to sit inside in the air-conditioning wearing layers and polo-necks to pretend it’s Autumn……….I WILL!!!!
Until next time………..remember…….
