Some skin and hair products I’m loving at the mo!

So it’s been a while since I did a beauty and ‘what I’m liking/not so liking’ post, mainly because I like to try products for a while before I feel I can honestly say something worthwhile about them – be it good or bad.  So this is basically a little post waffling on about a few items I’m using on my hair and skin at the moment and felt I wanted to share with you guys.

Disclaimer Alert: Just to reiterate, I have not been paid, sponsored or gifted any of these products, they’re items which I’ve heard good things about, read the reviews and wanted to see what all the hype was about myself (I’m a sucker like that!).

So without further ado, lets start with the hair!

Kevin Murphy Shampoo and Conditioner

Like a lot of girls, I have a love/hate relationship with my hair! It’s that combination of curly/wavy texture that’s not curly enough to be defined as proper ‘curly’…..so it’s just basically blah! I’ve learned to embrace the ‘waviness’ now after decades of fighting with it and thankfully…..beachy-waves look ok on me and are the easiest style to perfect! So in other words – I’m a wash-and-go kinda gal who prefers to let her hair dry naturally with a bit of scrunching here and there with product and the odd curling tong…..when I have time.  So there you have it – a brief rundown of my hair history/routine – not that you need to know any of that and now I’m just waffling on!! Ha, ha! Which leads me nicely on to talk about Kevin Murphy!  I kinda heard about Kevin Murphy – an Australian brand (also knowns as ‘Skincare for your hair) from other bloggers Snapchat stories and was curious to find out more.  Everyone was raving on about it (not sure were they paid or just an honest review of it?) so I stumbled upon the range in a salon/blowdry bar in Dubai – Marquee – where I regularly go to have my hair blow-dried etc.  My hair stylist recommend I buy this one – the Luxury Wash combo (they all have cute names by the way!!) – the shampoo and conditioner which is for thick, coarse hair.  In fact, the range has something to offer all types of hair and people……from the Blonde Angel Wash to the Hydrate Me Wash and Young Again Wash to Stimulate Me Wash (for men) – there is something there for everyone.

Can we also just stop and talk about the packaging for a minute!! I am in LOVE with their packaging, brand etc.  From their cleverly designed website to their marketing – these guys know what they are doing.  But the packaging alone for me is nearly enough ha, ha! They all come in these cute different colour (depending on which shampoo and conditioner products you go for) containers with a little side cap that provides easy access to the product whilst your in the shower etc.  Very practical and clever!

Am I Happy With It?

Yes! You know that feeling when you go to the hairdresser and your hair just feels soooo clean and you wonder how you can get that same feeling at home?  Well, its safe to say, I almost did as my hair felt soooo clean after using these.  I’ve always been a fan of Kérastase and it’s usually my go-to shampoo and conditioner combo but this makes a nice change and a brand I will continue using.  My hair also felt very soft and manageable and the frizz-radar was definitely on a low after this! Result!

Will I Be Buying It Again?

Definitely! I do want to try another one next time though.  I really think my hair isn’t that thick or coarse – I think according to a recent hair stylist – my hair is fine but there’s lots of it, if that makes sense ha, ha! So I am going to try either the Hydrate Me Wash or Plumping Wash next as I think they will offer even better results for my hair type.  The website also offers a little service whereby you can find out which shampoo from the range you are most suited to by filling out a little survey with instant results.

Where Can I Get It?

In Dubai, Kevin Murphy can by purchased in any of the Marquee Hair Salons/Blow-dry bars (approximately AED80 each) and in Ireland – check out www.nationalbeauty.ie for stockists around the country (€22 each).

Kérastase Oléo-Curl Leave In Cream

The Kevin Murhpy chat leads me nicely onto this product – (staying with the hair theme) and chatting about Kérastase which is probably the main products I use in my hair as I trust them, love the brand and always provides great results. I’m forever on the search for a nice finishing cream/serum to define my wavy hair and add a bit of texture as well as definition.  Kinda like, searching for that perfect foundation.  I’m so glad I found this cream though! Unlike gels – which can dry out the hair, I find the cream works much better and kind of like putting a nice moisturiser into your hair! Well……we moisturise our faces every morning and night – why not our hair ha, ha! The smell is just DIVINE! I’m all about the smells lol and the citrus scent of this makes me want to slather it all over my body! I usually put it on my hair when it’s completely dry and scrunch it so it helps and gives that wavy definition without any stiffness or crispiness.  My hair feels light and bouncy and I feel I’m giving it a nice dose of hydration as it works great as a leave-in conditioner cream.

Am I Happy With It?

Yes – along with being a nice cream to fight the frizz and enhance the definition of my wavy curls, it also feels like a nice nourishing cream and works wonders to tame the mane.  Again, I do believe my hair has slightly changed after having two kids, so like I mentioned above – I think my hair is more fine but lots of it, rather than thick but the product still works quite well.

Will I Be Buying It Again?

Most probably – yes as I’m so tired of trying to find the perfect frizz-fighter and curl enhancer and for now, this is working well.  Its not the cheapest at $42 (approx €36/AED154) but if used sparingly (as you only need a small little dollop) cost per use is worth it.

Where Can I Get It?

I find with Kérastase, they are not the easiest of products to find! It’s not as if you can pop into Boots and get it.  Only certain stockists/hair salons and hair supply stores sell it.  In saying that, I find that a lot of hair salons do stock the range as it has such a good name.  I bought mine on the Kérastase website itself – see here – as I heard so many good things and was dying to try it for myself.

Kiehls Daily Reviving and Midnight Recovery Concentrate

kevin-murphy-hair-products-blog-post-review-curly-wavy-shampoo-conditioner-love-blogger-gingham-and-sparkle-dubai-ireland-kerastase-cream-oleo-curl-thick-leave-in-treatment-kiehls-nighttime-daytime-midnight-recovery-concentrate-serum-daily-reviving-replenish-revitalize-moisture-face-skin-beauty-bioderma-atoderm-intensive-skincare-facial

In my opinion, I think Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil is up there with the best as a ‘cult-buy’.  It’s instantly recognisable from its medicinal packaging which I am obsessed about and these two have been on my beauty wish list for a while now.  I’m a big fan of facial oils and anything really that can help slow down the signs of ageing or perhaps make me look like I’m at least 10 years younger than I am.  Do they exist or am I just fooling myself?  Ok…….just let me keep fooling myself then and pretend I’m doing something ha, ha!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil

As I mentioned above, this has been on my wish-list for a while now.  I finally got around to purchasing it and I’ve waited a while to talk about it until now as wanted to make sure I gave an honest review of it.  Again, anyone that reads my posts, will know that I have a ‘thing’ for old medicinal packaging (think brown-glass containers in an old chemists in the 60’s) and my aim is to have my bathroom looking like a retro pharmacy! Ok….maybe not, but I think there is something really vintage and just cool about old looking little retro bottles ha, ha! The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil comes in a dark blue glass bottle with a little pipette which administers just the perfect, ample amount of product.  I’ve incorporated it into my nightly routine, after I cleanse and tone and just before I put on my night moisturiser.  To say it’s worth the cost is an understatement because I’ve been using it for over two months now and because ‘a little goes a long way’ – I still have a lot of product left in the bottle.  If you like lavender, you will love this.  I personally love the smell of lavender especially at bedtime as I think that scent in particular is associated with relaxation and sleep.  It’s not as heavy as other facial oils I have used and doesn’t leave your skin feeling too greasy.  It can be used on it’s own but I prefer to combine it with a night moisturiser as I feel I’m giving my skin that extra bit of ‘oomph’ in encouraging the nightly skin rejuvenating process.  The fact that it boasts almost 100% of natural ingredients including lots of vegetable oils and plant extracts is also making me love it more.  Have I noticed any results?  My skin does appear to be clearer these days, I do have the occasional break outs in the hormonal regions of the face but all-in-all – my skin is looking a lot smoother.  I have been using and trying out other products these days so I don’t know if its a combination of all my skincare together or this alone?  But I am enjoying it as part of my nightly skin care routine.

Am I Happy With It?

Over all I would say yes but I still don’t think it beats the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair which in my estimates is the ultimate in night time facial care.  It has made a difference to my skin and the lavender scent wins me over every time along with the non-greasy oil feel on my skin.  If you’re a fan of facial oils like myself, I would definitely give this a go – you definitely get value for money and the packaging alone is to die for.

Will I Be Buying It Again?

This is a hard one as I want to say ‘yes’ because I want the prettiness of the retro bottle and packaging for my bathroom and ‘no’ because I use a lot of facial oils and move around and stray to other brands! I’m not that faithful lol!

Where Can I Get It?

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate can be purchased online – here – and in any Kiehl’s store.

Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate

This hasn’t been around as long as the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and is still relatively new but in all honesty, I love this stuff.  I love the fact that it can be used and incorporated into your daily morning routine.  I’ve never really used a daily oil as I always feared they would be way too greasy, just sit on the skin, block your day-time moisturiser from doing its ‘thang’ and then just ruin your makeup! I really thought facial oils were strictly for night-time only – to aid the rejuvenating of the skin while you slept so I’ve always avoided them to say the least……until NOW.  It’s extremely light-weight – only a small amount is required and it can be used alone as a daytime moisturiser.  But, like the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – I like to team it up with a cream moisturiser just to again give my skin extra hydration for the day ahead. As it is a non-greasy oil, it completely absorbs into the skin with no greasy residue whatsoever making it ideal as a makeup base.  The scent is also DIVINE – quite floral and fresh -perfect as a nice ‘wake-me-up’ smell in the mornings! Again, the packaging alone sells it to me.  Like its sister – the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – the cute bottle with pipette is screaming ‘just-have-me-as-a-cute-bathroom-accessory’ lol!! I love that it adds that extra layer of nourishment onto my skin every morning.  It certainly has made a difference in my skins appearance and I think along with the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – the two teamed together have fantastic results to the overall texture and look of your skin.

Am I Happy With It?

100% yes – I absolutely love this product.  Again, the fact that I am incorporating an oil into my daily morning routine is a winner for me.  This is definitely high up on my list as one I would recommend to everyone because why not add that extra bit of hydration into your skin everyday to face the elements?!

Will I Be Buying It Again?

Yes – this I will purchase again for all the reasons I mentioned above.  I’m now so used to wearing it every day, my skin would kinda feel naked and feel like theres one less layer to soak into that epidermis!

Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate can be purchased online – here – and in any Kiehl’s store.

Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Moisturiser

kevin-murphy-hair-products-blog-post-review-curly-wavy-shampoo-conditioner-love-blogger-gingham-and-sparkle-dubai-ireland-kerastase-cream-oleo-curl-thick-leave-in-treatment-kiehls-nighttime-daytime-midnight-recovery-concentrate-serum-daily-reviving-replenish-revitalize-moisture-face-skin-beauty-bioderma-atoderm-intensive-skincare-facial

This little gem of a moisturiser has been on my radar for a while now and I first heard about it from Tara Makeup.  Anyone that follows Tara on Snapchat or been to any of her Irish masterclasses will know she is a big fan of this product and always singing its praises.  I personally love the Bioderma brand and especially the Sensibio Cleansing Micellar water which most people are familiar with.  Did you know – ‘one bottle of Bioderma Sensibio Cleansing Micellar water is sold every 3 seconds worldwide’!.  Along with the micellar water, I also use their separate SPF 50 cream which I mix with my own moisturiser each morning and also the Bioderma children’s range which I use on my own two kids.  Atoderm is technically a creamy moisturiser designed to combat very dry, itchy, flaky skin.  It is so mild but also so effective that it can be used on adults, children and babies and all over the body as well as the face.  As I’ve already mentioned – I use the range on my own children and find it excellent on their skin.  My daughter had little patches of eczema on the backs of her legs/knees and I find the Atoderm to be excellent in combating this.

Am I Happy With It?

Yes.  The cream itself has quite a silky, creamy consistency without being too heavy and your skin feels instantly nourished after putting it on. It’s also not oily which is a bonus especially as it targets dry areas.  I’ve found it can be used as both a day and night moisturiser but I do tend to use it more at night because of the fact that the cream has been specifically designed for dry, itchy, flaky skin so by using it at night, you are adding much needed hydration into your skin and also fuelling the rejuvenating process.   I also think its a great little skincare product to always have and especially so handy for holidays as I’ve mentioned – it can be used for both day and night, is an excellent moisturiser especially when travelling and dealing with harsh environmental factors such as a/c, cold weather and the sun.

Will I Be Buying It Again?

Definitely.  I do believe it’s one of those essential skincare products to always have in your bathroom and bring on holidays with you because of it’s multipurpose use.  The only thing I will say – if using it solely as a daytime moisturiser – I would ensure to add a separate SPF  – because of its purpose as a soothing cream for dry skin, it doesn’t contain any SPF.  Bioderma have a fab SPF Factor 50 cream which I use myself and which can be easily added to any moisturising cream.

Where Can I Get It?

Bioderma products are readily available in a wide range of pharmacies both in Dubai and Ireland and also Boots.  Interestingly – the Bioderma range works out more expensive in Dubai than Ireland with Atoderm Intensive working out at AED124 whilst in Ireland, its costing a mere €9.00.

So that wraps up my little beauty haul of what I’m currently using.  I’m actually loving all of these products right now, nothing quite negative to say about any of them which is good! As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog and taking time to read it.  I’ll be back next week with another little fashion post! Until then…………….
