Looking at my recent blog posts, it’s been an absolute AGE since I’ve uploaded an outfit post. To be honest, I’ve been up the walls lately with basically……LIFE! Between mom life, home life, school life, being a mom-taxi, a bit of work through my blog and after-school activities amongst other ‘goings-on’…..there just isn’t enough hours in the day. How do people work full time with a family and still have time for blogging/YouTube etc? Anyone know? Also, although I’m always trying to grow my Instagram (which is a pain in the ass might I add and painfully slow), I’ve also come to the conclusion that sometimes it gets ‘inside’ your head too much and you just need a COMPLETE break from it. So I’m doing just that in regular intervals. Just mini-detox’s where I’m taking time to be in the present without having my head stuck in the phone endlessly scrolling and looking at stuff that sometimes is quite pointless to my life. And I have to be honest……I feel so much better for doing so! Try it…..I promise it will change how you manage and think about social media.
I’ve also come to a conclusion with all of this social media/Instagram stuff……not everyone is your friend. Something must have happened me once I turned 40…..I just stopped caring and didn’t bother with people who I feel don’t benefit my life in a positive way. I like to call them ‘Begrudgers’……yep…..and there is a lot of them! I’m quite good at figuring them out from the crowd and once I do……..that’s it……I keep them at a massive arm’s length and thats where they will stay. Life’s too short to be wasting it on people that just bring you down and are basically jealous.
Ok rant over ha, ha….let’s get down to some serious business with this outfit post which I’m just gonna leave here ↓. The outfit consists of quite new high street purchases including a little designer splurge that may have happened with an just an ounce of spontaneity….oops! #sorrynotsorry
Let’s just talk about the bag first…………
Hello GG Marmont Matelassé mini-bag and welcome to the hood.
I won’t lie to ya, I wasn’t overly keen on the Marmont style when they first came out. Last year when the style hit the shelves and every blogger under her ‘street-style’ sun was wearing one, I purchased the Soho Disco bag as I thought it was definitely more of a practical classic (and which I LOVE!). As time when by, and different styles of the Marmont then started to emerge……it was like when you hear a song on the radio…..at first you don’t like it…..and then it kinda grows on you. Next thing I know, I’m on the Selfridges website putting one into my shopping cart! Thats basically how it happened…….!?
I didn’t purchase it in Dubai as I’ve always come to believe that it costs just way more to buy a designer bag here. My poor naive husband (thank god he doesn’t read my blog posts!!) did buy me a lovely Prada bag in Dubai – when we found out I was pregnant with our first child and in fairness it was near Christmas! But…….I can’t even say it out loud now how much it cost. It was stupid money – I must have brain-washed him or something coz there is certainly no way in hell he would spend that money again on a bag for me (2 kids later!!!). So any designer purchase since (not that there’s been many!) I’ve always bought elsewhere. In saying that and after purchasing the Marmont above – I may now think differently as to where I purchase in future because to be honest, I only made a small saving – there really wasn’t that much of a difference interestingly enough.
By ordering it off Selfridges, I paid a delivery charge of $30 plus Import Duties of $45 (which I didn’t expect when I ‘Confirmed to Pay’ at the check out). All in all I saved AED130 ($35/£26) when you compare the full price in Dubai to the UK. I just found that interesting as I thought with the exchange rate etc, I would have saved a lot more. All in all, I was very happy with the Selfridges service and it came in a couple of days straight to my door.
I’ve linked the bag under the picture above to the Dubai Gucci site as unfortunately that particular bag is no longer available on the Selfridges website. It may be out of stock but it will probably be re-stocked again quite soon (before the Christmas rush!). I did find this one though on the Selfrdiges website – the ‘GG Marmont small quilted leather camera cross-body bag’ which is quite similar – see here – and costs a little less than the mini-bag.
In terms of practicality, it is quite small (it ain’t called a ‘mini-bag’ for nothing) but it does fit the essentials. I have an iPhone 6 Plus which snuggly fits, a card holder, compact mirror, lippy, lip balm and keys. You could probably fit a few more small items but nothing else. I admit, I do love the cross body style though as it’s something that looks apt and stylish with both a casual day and night time outfit. The colour (Porcelain Rose) is also one that is timeless and whether it be Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, it’s an all year round shade that just goes with everything. WIN….WIN. So as a little investment piece I am delighted with this. Investing in classic accessories is something I enjoy as they will always be key items in your wardrobe and can make a difference to an outfit. Lets be honest, mixing high street styles with a bit of designer thrown in is something that will never get old.
I’m still obsessing over the whole ‘jogger’, sports luxe vibe thats all over the high street now. Zara in particular are KILLING it with their huge selection of cool joggers in an array of styles and colours. I picked up these green ones quite recently and I have to say, the quality is fab! They are super comfy, the colour is so on-trend at the moment and they literally go with everything from sock boots to trainers.
I was surprised to see this gorgeous hue of lilac pop up in H&M the other day in terms of this frilled blouse. But it just works so well with the trousers, will look divine with a burgundy skirt or trousers and will also transition so well into Spring and Summer – definitely a must-buy plus it’s current stock.
The shoes are a little sale bargain from Zara I picked up last summer and which I’ve gotten so much wear out of. You all know my love for kitten heels in terms of comfort and style and every high street store that knows it’s worth is stocking these heels right now. I’m not even sure if I can ever go back to ‘high high’ heels ever again?
