If you haven’t noticed by now………gingham is EVERYWHERE at the moment. From the catwalks to the high street, gingham has literally taken over as the print-of-choice for Spring/Summer 2017. It appears to be a trend that has successfully segued from the runways (I’m looking at you Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham) into some of our favourite high-street stores (I’m looking at you Zara and Mango). Lets take it back a notch though and see how gingham is the hottest print to be seen in right now. U.S. Vogue editor-in-chief and fashion royalty Anna Wintour is highly regarded as having the final word on fashion’s next wave of trends, so when she takes the plunge and wears a statement print, it’s safe to say that it’s a winner.
Exhibit A: the famous editor wore a gingham dress from Altuzarra’s Pre-Spring 2017 collection last summer at Wimbledon and that was it – the course was set for the ‘IT’ print to take the fashion world by storm.
Funnily enough, when I sat down to pick the name of my blog a year and a half ago, it never dawned on me that gingham would go on to be quite a cool, must-have fashion print. I always thought gingham was cute but in a ‘cottage-chic-picnic-50’s housewife’ kinda way and being a mum, it was always a print I was drawn to for my kids. I just think KIDS LOOK SUPER CUTE IN GINGHAM! So now that it has developed a bit of an ‘edge’, I will admit being chuffed with my blog namesake right now.
The fab trend sees gingham in various colours (most popular being black and white) and in that perfect cotton material which just has Summer written all over it. Isn’t it a welcome relief from the usual and quite predictable ‘floral’ trends that grace our high street stores every Spring and Summer? Don’t get me wrong…..I’m a big fan of floral print…..but I will admit, it is refreshing to have something a bit different for a change.
What I love about this outfit I tracked down in two of my favourite high-street stores – Zara and Mango – is both pieces can be styled separately very differently. For example the red culotte trousers from Zara are something that I know I will wear again and again all year round as lets face it, red never goes out of fashion whatever the season. The style of the culottes is classic, they have a beautiful tailored finish, can be worn with heels and flats alike and can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. The shirt would look equally as nice tucked into a leather skirt or jeans and the pop of red floral embroidery and frills gives it that feminine touch.
The aztec-style block-heel sandals are from Zara but ones which I’ve had for a couple of years now and find they haven’t dated that much thankfully. Again, you just can’t go wrong with monochrome – it’s always in fashion!

So that’s basically my take on gingham and SS17’s biggest trend. You’ve probably figured out by now that I am indeed a fan ha, ha and hopefully by the end of the summer, we won’t all be
sick of it. No doubt, we probably will! But for now, I’m going to relish in all things ‘gingham’ and make the most ( milk-it) out of this before something else takes over.
