Let’s be honest……living in the UAE in year-round sunshine with most of the year basked in a warm summer climate…..doesn’t exactly remind us to start getting our Autumn/Winter wooly knits out from the back of the cupboard and start thinking of a new season wardrobe….does it? I mean…..its November and I’m still going around in flip-flops, playsuits and bardot style tops and dresses whilst complaining of feeling like a ‘sweaty-mess’ at 2pm during the school-run. But its happening people…..in fact….it has happened. Autumn/Winter fashion has arrived and whilst we cannot even imagine donning a big heavy knit, over-the-knee boots, polo-neck or layers right now in this never-ending summer here……….it’s nice to dream. So without further ado……..here’s my top trends for Autumn/Winter 2017.
If you haven’t noticed already, red is THE colour of the season…..basically red is the new black. When sporting this ‘hot’ (pardon the pun) trend…….remember to stick to simple silhouettes as the drama is in the colour.

The Granny Cardi
I’m a massive ‘granny-cardi’ fan. In fact, the chunkier, the bigger, the more cosier – the better. I reckon theres like a week in January in Dubai where I’ll get some good use out of one. Team with leather, PVC and clinch it in at the waist for added affect. Plus don’t just buy black – your cardi needs to make a statement this season.H&M Cable-knit cardigan – buy here
Prince of Wales Check
If there was ever a ‘cool’ time to wear Prince of Wales check or any other ‘hertitage’ check for that matter……it’s NOW! In fact…..I would go as far to ask…….is Prince of Wales the new Gingham? Seen on everything at the moment from blazers, trousers and power suits to bardot tops and kitten-heels……this print ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I know what you’re thinking……velvet belongs in the cold Northern Hemisphere and is usually only seen around Christmas. Well – not anymore. In fact I’m currently going through a bit of a velvet obsession myself……..and yes I plan to be all over it from now until Christmas. Plus, if it’s good enough for Olivia Palermo……………..

Ok….without that image of Ross from Friends in the episode where he’s trying to put those PVC leather trousers back on……this is quite a wearable trend ha, ha. I’m thinking a skirt may be more suitable to the climate in this region though…….you probably wouldn’t need a box of talc powder to accompany you! If it’s all a bit too ‘plastic-fantastic’ for you….you can keep this look subtle by adding some high-shine accessories instead.

Truth be told……I don’t think I’ve worn a pair of corduroy trousers since the 90’s…….when they also had a slight come-back and weren’t just resigned to middle-aged Geography teachers! But yes…..corduroy is back and every street style blogger who knows her worth…..was championing this comeback at the latest Fashion Weeks around the globe. Fear not though……the ‘new look corduroy’ works best for this season in blush pink, terracotta and teal – so you know what to look out for whilst trend shopping.

Who knew sock boots would really take off this season and become THE boot of AW17? I have to admit, I’m a big fan of this trend (see main pic) as I find them quite elegant and slimming on the ol’ ankles and depending on the heel size – quite comfy. They look equally as nice under cropped jeans, culottes, midi-dresses, mini’s and skirts and the fact that there are so many style variations in stores and online now make them very relatable to all. Pull up your socks
(sorry……couldn’t resist!!) and go get yourself a pair!

From the iconic Chloe Susanna boots to the Givenchy Prue Leather Biker boots……….the high street is currently awash with this tough bad girl biker style – in fact, the more buckles, studs, pearls and lacers…..the better. More is more it seems when it comes to this boot style and I for one love the whole ‘tough meets feminine’ look. Pair these boots with a pretty floral, midi-length dress for the ultimate ‘tough-chic’ look.

There’s obviously a lot more trends about at the moment but these I feel are the main ones being consumed by us all right now and making serious statements on Instagram and at the latest Fashion Weeks. I’d be here all day if I was to go into everything hot and trending right now so I’m gonna leave it there and hope you got a little bit of inspo from reading this.
