Like Mother Like Daughter…………..
Following on from my series of local fashion designers within the Gulf region, I’m back with the cutest post featuring my little mini-me…..my daughter Molly…..and I…..wearing a couple of the mommy and daughter matching pieces from the Amal Al Raisi Spring/Summer 2017 collection. One of my previous and recent blog posts featuring an outfit with the most amazing print from Amal Al Raisi – see here – showcases a gorgeous matching bomber, top and culottes but….when I visited the Fashion Exclusive office in Dubai to look at the collection, I immediately zoned in on the matching mum and daughter pieces and totally ran away with the whole ‘match-matchy/twinning’ concept ha, ha! (I’m sure Molly will appreciate this when she’s older……..maybe not?)
Omani based Amal Al Raisi began her career in the fashion industry 9 years ago and in 2015 created a ready-to-wear collection inspired by her background and culture of traditional Omani dresses, kaftans, abayas and jalabiyas. Along with just LOVING her whole SS17 collection, what struck me the most about this designer is her beliefs and admiration of today’s power women who “prioritize family but also pursue their dreams”. Love that!!
Her SS17 collection is inspired by the region of Dhofar which is located in Southern Oman and is known for not only its beautiful wadies, but also for the most richest abundance of frankincense in the world. Her prints were designed to reflect the amazing scenery of Dhofar including the majestic nature, Omani mountains and iconic trees. The colour palettes consists of turquoise and teal hues that draw inspiration from the dominant colours of the wadies in the region. “Powder, jasmine white and luban add pops of colour reflecting the vibrant hues that cover Oman whilst the mix of light crepe and sheer mesh fabrics together with fluid silhouettes give tribute to the feminine yet modern woman.”
There are so many beautiful matching pieces in her collection, it was hard to choose one – let alone a couple! I firstly went for the matching cream cut-out lace dresses as thought they were fun especially for the photo-shoot and basically the sleeves (almost wings) sold them to me. How cute does Molly look in hers though? At one stage, we were contemplating lying on the sand (well we were in the desert after all!) and pretending to be ‘sand fairies’…….these dresses aren’t exactly cheap (and borrowed) so we kinda nipped that idea in the bud with the agreement of the photographer Claire Stafford. Embellishments, which are a key feature in Amal Al Raisi’s designs make an appearance in these gorgeous dresses and for me, the dress is something you could totally wear casually as I did with a pair of Converse or glam it up with a pair of heels for a night out.
The second outfit I choose for the shoot was a vibrant teal colour almost ‘sarong/culotte’ type trousers with matching top and matching floaty dress for Molly. Molly particularly loved this one as she could easily and comfortably move in it and chase the swans and ducks around the lake. Again the fabric is adorned by Al Raisi’s signature embellishments which add a touch of luxury to her pieces.
I’m so thrilled to have been able to do this little shoot with Molly as these are pictures (I’ve a lot more which I’m not gonna bombard you with!) that I will treasure forever and before she gets to a stage in her life where she wouldn’t be caught dead wearing matching clothes with her mother ha, ha! Twinning with your little ‘mini-me’ is all the trend now ya know…..even Primark are in on the game!
This concludes my Amal Al Raisi feature (her collection is soooo lovely…….I just couldn’t resist borrowing a good few pieces for my blog). I’m really excited to see now what she has in store for Autumn/Winter 2017 so…..watch this space. Amal’s ultimate goal is for her pieces to be worn far beyond the borders of Oman. I don’t think she has any worry there, already she is making huge waves on the International scene with her ready to wear collection and in fairness – her mini-me collection……..I mean, who doesn’t love twinning with their little girls…….!?
Until next time………………
