I don’t know what it is……but Irish people/entrepreneurs/companies etc…….just KNOW how to make good fake tan’s! Is it because as a very Northern Hemisphere country, our climate has a lot to answer for in terms of not much sun and a lot of rain? Or is it because we don’t like to embrace our very pasty, pale Irish complexions? Well whatever the reason is…….I don’t really care because as far as I’m concerned – three of the most talked about and popular fake tan companies right now – Cocoa Brown, Bellamianta and Vita Liberata are all Irish and are all KILLING it in terms of fake tan products worldwide. I’m a massive Cocoa Brown fan and have almost all of Marissa Carter’s (Founder and CEO) fab products. Bellamianta is a hot topic these days in the fake tanning world and seems to be sold out almost everywhere which says a lot and makes me want to try this popular product even more (watch this space). But this blog post is dedicated to Vita Liberata – a tan I became aware of a couple of months ago, one which I am currently LOVING and feel I wanted to share all the deets with you guys! So here it goes………….
WHO ARE VITA LIBERATA?
Founded by Irish-native Alyson Hogg in 2007, Vita Liberata was the first odourless tan created and also prides itself as the first tanning brand free from parabens, perfume, alcohol and all chemicals. Loved by celebrities including Sofia Vergara, Gigi Hadid and actress Jackie Cruz, Vita Liberata has also become the self tanner of choice for the world’s top spas including George V Paris, St. Regis, Viceroy, Ritz-Calton and Burj Al Arab. Not bad for an Irish company who continue to revolutionise the industry making self-tanning a viable alternative to sun exposure for all. Using the purest ingredients – with natural, certified organic and Ecocert approved extracts in their formula – Vita Liberata are now recognised as the world’s leading non-toxic, organic tanning company.
I first became aware of Vita Liberata a couple of months ago for my sisters wedding. I had a spray tan done using Vita Liberata and to say I was impressed is an under-statement. I literally couldn’t get enough of the stuff and absolutely loved how it looked on my skin. It lasted approximately a good week before it started fading – which it literally faded into nothing. I hardly noticed it disappearing! I was even more impressed that it was an Irish company (as I said just previously – Irish people/companies – KNOW how to make good tan). So when I found ONE bottle left of the Fabulous Self-Tan Mousse range in my local pharmacy which literally just started stocking it – I grabbed that bottle like my life depended on it!! (Ok….maybe not….but you get the idea!).
At this point – it may be a good idea then to mention the DISCLAIMER! This is a product which I wanted, bought and tested out myself. I have not been sponsored or gifted it and my opinions are based on my own findings of the product.
Most people that know me well, know that I rarely sunbathe or sit in the sun even though I live in the desert! Yes living in Dubai has probably made me more ‘sun-savvy’ and more aware of my skin and looking after it! That’s not to say I haven’t in the past! I have literally burnt myself to a crisp on countless European sun holidays in my late teens as well as when I first started in the airlines (Aer Lingus) and all my trips Stateside! I was obsessed with tanning in the sun and looking brown (in my case – usually red!) and if there was sun and it was hot – I was out there faster than you can say ‘no sun protection’! When I first lived in Dubai I was constantly in the sun – I just loved living in a climate where I could sunbathe everyday and then further my tanning episodes on trips to some fab exotic locations with Emirates. So yes…….I’ve DEFINITELY damaged my skin throughout the years which I now regret but………I’ve done a complete 360 on it all and now I just couldn’t be bothered trying to get a real tan and damage my skin further. Nowadays…….I just fake it til I make it ha, ha! I’m now all about fake tans and finding the perfect one for me – similarly like how you want to find the perfect foundation and mascara! Same, same!
VITA LIBERATA ‘FABULOUS’ SELF-TANNING TINTED MOUSSE
I’m a huge loyal fan of Cocoa Brown as I’ve mentioned above and it’s literally my ‘go-to’ tan. I love the brand, the price-point and the products so to find another tan as good if not better – is no mean feat! Enter……Vita Liberata! Wow! What can I say? I LOVE this stuff. As I’ve also mentioned above – the Vita Liberata spray tan I had done for my sisters wedding was AMAZEBALLS so I knew the product was good. In terms of easy-application I prefer to use a mousse so I was excited to try the Vita Liberata Self-Tanning Mousse from their Fabulous range. Packaging-wise, it’s nice and simple – metallic brown and white and looks expensive. I used a tanning mitt when applying the mousse itself and it did actually glide on quite effortlessly and of course because the mousse is a dark-brown colour, you can see exactly where you are applying – always a good thing lol! The tan literally melted into the skin and almost dried instantly so you need to be quick when applying to make sure you have an even layer. Another thing I love about this brand – it prides itself with Odour Remove technology so there is virtually ZERO smell whilst applying and especially afterwards. It comes in three different shades – Medium, Intense and Dark. I went with the Medium as wanted it to look as natural as possible and that’s exactly what I got…..a nice medium bronzed tan. One thing to note – watch your towels, hands, clothes – whatever is around you whilst you’re applying as this does stain! I went to bed after applying it with pj’s, socks (pj’s tucked into them!!) and a towel on my pillow as didn’t want to take the risk of anything on the freshly washed sheets! (P.S: Husbands pet hate……going to bed with newly dried tan…….recipe for disaster or divorce ha, ha).
Ok so yes – that is my pasty, pale (almost blue-colour) leg on the left! The other is the results of the Vita Liberata Mousse after I woke up in the morning and before a shower. As you can see – huge difference – but then again that wouldn’t be hard as I almost resemble Casper the Ghost when I don’t have any tan on! Maybe I should just embrace my pasty pale ‘whiteness’?! Then again…..maybe not lol. I like to think of myself as a Bronzed Goddess after a good self-tanning application lol. After my shower, the colour was even nicer and maybe again because Vita Liberata has an Irish background – it really just suits my skintone. Probably one of the best fake tan formula’s I have used. I’m now into the second week of this and the application is still going strong – RESULT! I’ve hardly noticed the fading as it’s so natural.
WILL I BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN?
100% YES. In fact, I actually want to try the lotion next as I’ve read a few reviews that rave about its moisturising qualities. Plus of course – I’m a big advocate of ‘Buy Irish’ and I always like to support my own so this is now on my Favourite Brand list!
VITA LIBERATA SELF-TANNING BRONZER POWDER
In all honesty, I didn’t really need another bronzer! Yes, bronzer’s are an ESSENTIAL part of any Irish girls makeup bag/kit as we love a good bronzed glow in Ireland ha, ha, coz we certainly most of the time don’t get it from our summer (except for the odd day in summer when the sun does come out as we literally grasp onto that sunshine like our lives depend on it). And as you will have read above – I do live in Dubai and yes its sunny almost 365 days a year but in saying that, I’m rarely in it, so I need help in all aspects of the bronzing world! I was intrigued with this product from Vita Liberata when I was purchasing the mousse – the world’s FIRST self-tanning bronzer powder? What?
According to the facts: “based on Trystal3™ Technology, the formula combines an instant pure mineral bronze colour with long lasting self tan results for a fab, natural medium tan that lasts for up to 5 days”. I didn’t care – it had me at “long lasting self tan results”! So yes it was purchased because who doesn’t want a bronzer that basically tans your face for days even after you wash it off?! The product itself sold out completely in the U.S in 2 weeks after it was released – so you know there’s something about this. Again, packaging for this is ‘on-point’ with its shiny golden-brown jar and gold lettering. The powder comes in a container with little perforated holes – the now famous ‘tap and swirl’ method which allows you to dispense as much as you need. And can I just say the little Kabuki brush which is included in the box is the perfect little bronzing brush for contouring as it has a great tapered top and is so soft and dense – I think I’ll use this for all of my contouring and as a ‘setting-my-base’ brush!
The mineral powder comes in 2 shades – Sunkissed (Light) and Bronze (Medium). I purchased the Sunkissed shade as I’m quite pale and a deep bronzing colour would just look too ‘Oompa Loompa’ish’ on me. First impressions on using this product – FAB! The powder is so finely milled – it just sits so lovely over your liquid foundation and literally melts onto the skin. The colour is also a gorgeous shade adding a subtle glow to the skin. Although I LOVE this as an actual bronzer, it didn’t give me a very noticeable lasting tan on my face I hoped it would? It was more of a light, very subtle tanned glow – hardly noticeable but that’s ok! I think I actually prefer that? Maybe because the Sunkissed shade is such a light colour and perhaps you would find more of a result with the Bronze shade? I tried it over my foundation and on its own just over moisturiser, so it works well with both methods but don’t expect huge, very obvious tanned results from the Sunkissed shade, unless you do go for the darker one.
WILL I BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN?
Absolutely! As I’ve mentioned, I LOVE this as a bronzer. I think if this came in a compact form – I would certainly rush out to buy it but as it stands, the formula is fantastic – the powder goes on the skin so lovely and it feels so light and airy. In addition, I think it’s a lovely product to use over any of the Vita Liberata Self-Tanners – to add an extra, glowy finish.
WHERE CAN I GET VITA LIBERATA?
So anyone looking to try a different alternative to some of the other well-known self-tanning brands out there, I would recommend to try this. Also, if you have an event, occasion such as a wedding to go to and need a spray tan – I would seek out salons or individuals which are stocking the Vita Liberata spray-tan. I was so impressed with the spray tan, I was dying to try their self-tanning products and so glad I did now. It’s always nice to try new different products and a bonus when they turn out even better than what you were expecting or than what you are already using. As always, with this fabulous weather we are having……stay safe in the sun. If you are sunbathing – remember…..no less than Factor 50 or use kids sun-factor (you’ll thank me later!!) and always get your moles checked – make it an annual check-up! Meanwhile…..while everyone is basking in the glorious sunshine……I’m up in the bathroom with a tanning mitt in one hand and some Vita Liberata in the other………….bye for now!
