Ok, I’m gonna put it out there and say that I reckon every girl (and everyone reading this!!) owns a denim shirt in some shape or form? Yes?!? It’s just one of those staple wardrobe items that never goes out of fashion, is around every season albeit a different colour or style – but it’s there and literally GOES WITH EVERYTHING! And that’s why I call it the ‘go-with-everything-shirt’! I mean……it’s fool-proof…..you wake up in the morning and can’t decide what to wear. So you take out your reliable trust-worthy jeans – what can I wear with them? My denim shirt of course (double-denim). You take out a midi-skirt – what can I wear with this? Oh I know…..my denim shirt! You think about those white pair of Palazzo pants you own, what would look nice with them? Yes – my denim shirt! You want to rock your leather skinnies or maybe your leather pencil skirt, let’s see…..what can I team with them? Ah of course, my denim shirt! And the collaboration is endless! Hence why this blog post is about this same topic……..going-out, dressy, sequinned, blinged-up sparkly skirt……..hell yeah……I’ll just put my denim shirt with it!
Sister to the denim jeans, the denim shirt is now an integral part of any male and female wardrobe and for me personally, its my ‘go-to’ item if I feel I’ve hit a ‘fashion-block’ (like ‘writers-block’) as to what to wear! Being honest, I actually own about 7 denim shirts with different denim washes and styles including chambray and colours etc. And I love each and every one – just like my jeans!
For this look – I’ve teamed a skirt which I’ve had in my wardrobe for a while now from Virgos Lounge with a classic denim shirt. The skirt itself is quite dressy as it is quite a heavy embellished piece with pink, gold and green sequins all over a heavy navy colour material. I absolutely love it and is something that’s been in my wardrobe for quite some time now! By teaming the denim shirt with it – it instantly funks up the outfit, almost de-feminising it and gives it a bit of an edge. Of course, this look would also look FAB with a pair of Adidas Originals Superstars which I am dying to put with it!
In terms of accessories and footwear for this look, again I’ve recycled some pieces from my wardrobe. None of the items here are new, its just a look showcasing that you can still go to your wardrobe (even on days when you think you have nothing to wear) and re-hash some old fav’s to create a fresh new and updated look. The shoes are from Topshop and are ones I never get tired of as still to this day they are quite on-trend with the laser cut-out design and colour. The leather clutch bag is also an ‘oldie’ but a ‘goodie’ as I purchased it quite a while ago from Sportsgirl in Syndney, Australia (and always brings back good memories of my flying days!). The only relatively new little piece is the choker – which is from H&M and again is on-trend with the whole throwback to the 90’s.
So as I mentioned above – I own about 7 denim shirts (insert ‘monkey-with-hands-covering-eyes’ emoji!) of different styles. The one I’ve used for this look again is an oldie from Zara but one I have literally almost worn to death! The colour just goes with absolutely everything including different denim jeans and it’s so comfy! I also like that it has fasteners as opposed to buttons (yep I’m lazy like that!!), the length is great for tucking-in and leaving out, it works good for layering and has almost a boyfriend-shirt feel about it.

So, the next time you wake in the morning and lie there thinking ‘what the hell you are going to wear?’…..(yes we all do it!!) – just think of your tried and tested denim shirt hanging in your wardrobe which is just dying to be worn and paired with something different. It’s the type of wardrobe staple that can take you from day to night all year around and update your outfit in an instance!
